Research Requests

At East School, we are working through cataloging our vast collection. We will do our best to find materials relevant to your request and to answer your questions as completely as possible. We do not charge for research requests or photos. We ask that you not reproduce or share our photos or documents without our express permission. We prefer that research requests come to our email, not through social media messaging or by phone.

For help with genealogical research, please contact the Pittsfield Public Library. They house our genealogy collection and have full-time employees to help you.

For legal records, please contact the Pike County Courthouse. We do not have any marriage, death, or land records, etc. in our museum.

You may also want to check our Historical Organizations page to see if there is another local organization better suited to answer your question. For example: The Griggsville Preservation and Restoration is the best resource for Griggsville, Valley City, New Salem, and Perry area questions. You can of course always contact us first and we can direct you to someone else if needed.

East School Museum houses a great collection of county newspapers, some dating all the way back to the 1840s. We have many on microfilm, but none are digitized and thus are not searchable. Two great resources for digitized and searchable newspapers are the North Pike District Library and the Quincy Public Library.
